dEUS is een compleet andere band geworden

Ruim zes jaar liggen er tussen The Ideal Crash en het nieuwe album Pocket Revolution van dEUS. Een sabbatical van een jaar liep een beetje uit de hand, zullen we maar zeggen. Voorman Tom Barman wijdde zich aan andere muzikale projecten (Magnus) en maakte een goed ontvangen speelfilm (Anyway The Wind Blows 2003), maar de vraag was natuurlijk of dEUS de draad weer kon oppikken. Nee dat bleek niet te kunnen.
Gitarist Craig Ward en bassist Danny Mommens trokken zich halverwege de opnames van Pocket Revolution al dan niet vrijwillig terug, zodat van het oude dEUS alleen Barman en violist/toetsenist Klaas Janszoons overbleven. Het dEUS van Pocket Revolution is een andere vand dan dat van The Ideal Crash, en dat hoor je ook. Het is even wennen want het nieuwe dEUS komt aanvankelijk wat gewoontjes over. Maar het loont de moeite Pocket Revolution wat tijd te geven. Barmans teksten zijn beter geworden, de passie druipt ervan af en de liedjes kennen elk
een originele, sterke vorm. De rust in de nieuwe nummers, waarin Barman een enkele keer klinkt als zijn oude idool JJ Cale is slechts schrijn. Onder de oppervlakte broeit er vanalles. Vergeet het oude dwarse dEUS, het nieuwe heeft een ijzersterk rockalbum afgeleverd, en wat is dat Nothing really Ends toch een bloedstollend mooi liedje.

Danny Mommens tells us about his heaven and hell in this weeks Humo. His hell is working for a boss with megalomania during the time he wasn't his own boss. The reporter asked him if that was a reference to his time with dEUS and Danny confirmed. Further in the article he tells he's got a sort of deathlist of people who have been hurting him. If the doctor tells Danny he's going to die soon, he will kill these people. He clearly says: Tom Barman is not on the list!

Danny Mommens will do a sax-solo on (the B-side of) Cyber Polaroid, the comeback-single of eightiesband The Bollock Brothers. The single was recorded with Luc Van Acker and will also contain a cover of Beats Of Love by Nacht Und Nebel. A couple of years ago Vive La Fête did a cover of Horror Movies (a song by The Bollock Brothers) on the Nuit Blanche-single.

For those of you who want to hear Danny messing up Beats Of Love on the sax: Cyber Polaroid will hit the stores in august, followed by a full album. 2 Many DJ's will do some remixes.
