Gari gives some impressions of the "VERY well attended" dEUS show in New York on his blog.
Noticed some rumors on Myspace that Millionaire is supporting dEUS in Florence (and probably the other Italian dates too).
Bert Anciaux, Flemish minster of Culture, is considering financial support for Belgian bands when they are asked to tour (as a support act) with bigger bands as The Rolling Stones or Coldplay.
Anciaux recently supported Kate Ryan, the Belgian participant for the Eurovision Song Contest, with a 60.000 euro fund for a European promocampaign. dEUS-manager Christian Pierre told Gazet Van Antwerpen that Ryan deserved that kind of support, but he had some doubts about the amount of money: ,,We're talking about the same amount of money for the dEUS-tour in the States. But we're paying ten people who work 14 hours a day. That's probably more expensive than a playback on tv."
Tijger from ISR uploaded a super soundboard quality-bootleg from the dEUS-gig on Crossing Border 1996 to sendspace. It's 300 megabytes. Available on http://www.sendspace.com/file/w2m3kf
I added three songs from the live-session dEUS did on French radiostation Le Mouv last October to the podcast. Enjoy!
Four journalists from The Tuscon Weekly about their South By Southwest-experencies. Stephen Seigel was impressed by dEUS.
He also talks about the problems with the local crew and the cops.Thirty seconds into a transcendent version of "Fell Off the Floor, Man," all was forgiven, the audience justifiably transformed into a swarm of true believers.
A bit strange: Italian magazine Debaser dEUS-demos, thirteen years after the release.
I was browsing Myspace tonight and bumped into the page by DJ Del Piero. He remixed What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) and made it to the final selection of 4 remixes that were broadcasted by Studio Brussel. According to him Studio Brussel received more than 100 remixes. I posted a couple of them to the podcast, but that still keeps at least 85 out there. Can anyone complete our collection?
Here's what we got already:
- What We Talk About (Joez Remix)
- What We Talk About (Joeri Remix)
- What We Talk About (Del Piero Remix)
- What We Talk About (The Universe Remix) (winner of the contest)
- What We Talk About (MrDeVille Remix)
- What We Talk About (twisted Lxvemix)
- What We Talk About (Jeankowski's finest touch)
- What We Talk About (Stijn Van Minnebruggen Remix)
- What We Talk About (Lfoid Remix)
- What We Talk About (Dj SP!N's ProtonType Remix)
- What We Talk About (Hard Limit Remix)
- What We Talk About (Robotone Remix)
- What We Talk About (AMF Remix)
- What We Talk About (Paulus Remix)
BTW: If you're on Myspace too, feel free to add me.
An article from Israel daily Haaretz talks about the remarkable loyalty from the Israeli audience to dEUS: Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that dEUS was one of the few bands willing to come to Israel during the past few years when the international pop-concert scene here was nonexistent.
Great to see my podcast is number one in the podcast-listing from Skynet, Belgium's biggest internetprovider.
Just discovered that iTunes has two versions of the What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) EP. Tracklist is the same for the V2 and the Universal-version. The only difference is the price: the V2-version is 1 euro cheaper (3,96 vs 4,95).
Mauro is one of the first Belgian musicians who will sell a record exclusively through iTunes. The Otot-album Thruth & Style is released on The Wack Attack Barrack and available in the iTunes Music Store only.
According to Austrian webzine britishrock dEUS will play the Provinssirock-festival in Seinäjoki, Finland (June 16-18) and the Sziget-festival in Budapest, Hungary (August 9-16). There's nothing on the festival-websites, so consider it a rumor.
Three more gigs have been announced. dEUS will play the Arbaton in Prague (Czech Republic) on Wednesday May 10th, the Proximo in Warsaw (Poland) on May 11th and the Werk II in Leipzig (Germany) on Friday May 12th.

Niko Westerling (aka 'The Universe') has been selected as the winner of the Studio Brussel Remix-contest. You can listen to his remix here. You can still listen to the other remixes in the podcast.
Update: Tom on Stubru about the remixes

I still had to give you the download of the rest of the Milan-concert. I already podcasted 5 songs back in December and finally added the rest to the podcast too. Enjoy!

Although dEUS.be announced that the winner of the Stubru-remix contest was to be announced yesterday, there's nothing about it on dEUS.be or the Studio Brussel-website. Guess we'll have to wait a couple of days. Meanwhile, I added the MrDeville-remix to the podcast.
Found a fan-video for Let's Get Lost on Myspace too. Recorded by 5 girls who seem to have a band called 18:00 nieuws. Fun to see.
Mauro has his own Myspace-page and he also created a podcast with music he bought while he was touring with dEUS: click here for the Knight Of The Cheap Jewel Megamix.
By the way, I once heard Stéphane also had a Myspace-account, but I can find it. Anyone else? (Update: it's here and here's the one by Tim Vanhamel.) (thx to Alison)

Some info from the Faceculture-interview (only from the part where Stef talks about Tom)
- working on Pocket Revolution was hectic as ever, Tom lives faster then anyone else, he's kinda hyperkinetic.
- he was very happy Tom asked him
- Singing on Sun Ra was 'acrobatic'
- he'll be working with Tom in the future
Faceculture had a video-interview with Stef Kamil Carlens. There's a part (5 minutes) where Stef talks about Tom too. I have no time to watch it at this moment, so I will report about his words later. If nobody else has done so in the comments in the meantine....
dEUS will play the Art Rock Festival in Saint Brieuc (France) on June 3th. Other bands playing there include Happy Mondays, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Katerine and The Rakes. Check the tourpage for the latest info.

Just noticed that Put The Freaks Up Front was used in the movie G:mt. (Funny to see how Hollywood.com writes Dues instead of dEUS). An while browsing the Internet Movie Database I also discovered Serpentine was used in Crazy and Tom wrote the music for Sorry. And the crew from The Scarlet Seduction also had a Tom Barman aboard.

According to Ireland On-Line, dEUS will play at the Electric Picnic festival in Co Laois, Ireland (September 1-3).
The What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love)-single is available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Amazon says it will be released on March 28th. There's a version priced 8.99$ and one priced 7.49 $. I don't see any difference (apart from a wrong piece of artwork in the expensive version)
update: Amazon.co.uk mentions May 8th as the release date.
There's a little interview with Tom in OOR. They asked for his favourite book, concert, movie & album.
Album: The Velvet Underground & Nico – The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)
"Between all the records I listened to when I was fifteen, you sometimes found one that seemed to come from another planet and the ‘banana record’ is the best example of that. I just started playing guitar and learned scales and all and then suddenly there would be Lou Reed with his solo on Run Run Run.
(…)
The whole record intrigued me, because it sounded so dangerous and sexy. And also because I didn’t understand it, although I learned to understand it later on. De band was IT: the way they looked, the combination of instruments.
(…)
They are the ultimate rock group, more than the Beatles."
Book: Jim Thompson – The killer inside me (1952)
"I didn’t have time to read a lot because of the film and dEUS, but I’m catching up right now. I’m reading a lot by Philip Roth and Coetzee, but my real favourite is Jim Thompson. He wrote forty books and I’m at number twenty eight I think. The Killer is unbelievably exciting with a beautiful dark, human tone, like most of his novels.
(…)
A phenomenal artist, lesser known by the younger audience."
(buy from Amazon.com)
Concert: Prince – Parade Tour (Vorst Nationaal, 1986)
“I enjoy making top 5 lists for myself and on the concert list Prince is definitely number one. There is probably only one example of three brilliant records in a row, plus accompanying concerts: Parade, Sign o’ the Times and Lovesexy. Actually I can’t choose, because all three concerts were one giant block of genius. If I had to choose, I would choose Parade. It was my first concert. Astonishing. AND in Vorst Nationaal too, where we are playing with dEUS right now.”
Movie: Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
“This film is actually a filmed theatre piece, based purely on dialog. Dialogues and acting are the two things that I like to work with myself. I can’t think of a movie in which these two elements work as well as in Virginia Woolf. For me there’s a lot of recognition: in my family it was always kind of hard, verbally. Not as hard as in the film, but still. To love seeing each other and on the other hand killing each other verbally, THAT causes the film to get under your skin. ‘If you even existed, I would divorce you’: one of my favourite quotes out of a movie that contains tons of those kinds of remarks. Splendid! And Richard Burton of course, somebody who completely sucked up life. The man had everything: handsome, charming, a real womanizer, very smart. I feel for that.”

Tom was talking about the police-intervention in the interview during the KEXP-session. Cheryl Waters said there was a huge buzz around the dEUS-gig on SXSW the last days. All people were talking about how great the gig was. Tom added that the cops apparently didn't like it. He told that they were stopped 5 minutes before the end of the gig.
He namedropped Absynthe Minded and Millionaire and told how hard it is for bands from a small country to break through. Session sounded great. I recorded it. An mp3 is here. It misses the first minute due to problems with my pc. Anyone else a better recording?

I finally decided to check out Last.fm. I joined the dEUS-group and bumped into this review (in Dutch) from Pocket Revolution and a fresh fansite (not finished yet)
Humo his celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and asked 70 'stars' about their life with Humo.
- Tom read Humo when he was on school, especially in the history class (which he regrets now)
- He remembers articles about Notaris X (who happens to be Tom's landlord) and Leo Delcroix
- Humo was/is Tom's bible for good music
- He had some supermoments on the Pop Poll-ceremonies: Kool Thing (Sonic Youth) together with Millionaire, Subterranean Homesick Blues (Bob Dylan) with Zita Swoon
- About the Rock Rally: they were surprised they reached the final (in 1992), because the semi-final was a disaster
Readers of Flemish weekly Humo have chosen Pocket Revolution as Best Belgian album of the year. Other categories with dEUS:
- Best Belgian singer: 2. Tom Barman (1. Gabriel Rios)
- Best Belgian band: 2. dEUS (1. Hooverphonic)
- Best Belgian single: 2. 7 days, 7 weeks (1. Oh Darkness - Admiral Freebee)
- Best concert: 5. dEUS (1. Rock Werchter)
Tim Seely will support dEUS tonight in Chop Suey, Seattle. Check out a couple of his songs on his Myspace-page. I updated my tour-page with the latest info.
dEUS will do a live session on KEXP 90.3 FM at noon (local time) today. Since it's 9 hours earlier in Seattle than in Brussels, dEUS should be on around 21 hours (Belgian time) tonight. You can catch the live-stream here.

dEUS will play the Le rock dans tous ses états-festival in Evreux (France). The festival is scheduled for June 23rd and 24th.
(thx to Ringring on ISR)
Dirk De Bruyker, a Flemish researcher at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in Palo Alto mailed me his review of the gig in Cafe Du Nord. Apparently Eric Drew Feldman, who did the support act with kNIFE & fORK, played the keyboards during Little Arithmetics.
Vlaams Belang-politician Rob Verreycken also blogged about the dEUS-event in Antwerp. He got a mail from the Flemish Muziekcentrum with the news about the European Tour Support for dEUS (16.000 euros). He wonders if dEUS is gonna do a refund of 4.000 euros. His logic: the 16.000 euro is probably paid from the Flemish contribution to Europa. 25% of Flanders votes Vlaams Belang, so dEUS gets 4.000 euros from Vlaams Belang.
Some background about Verreycken: in May 2004 he had a clash with his wife from which he was divorcing. He has custody of their three children. One morning his wife was waiting for them to come out of their home and attacked her estranged husband with pepper spray. Verreycken then beat her up, breaking her nose, and causing other injuries. The prosecuting office ruled that both were guilty, but that they would not be taken to court as the offences outweighed each other.
An article from the Muziekcentrum-website about the events in Austin. It also mentions the police-thing.
Vlaams Belang-politician Bart Debie asks the visitors of his weblog to throw away all dEUS-cd's. He invites everyone to come to the Brabo-evening on October 1st, only 50 meters from where the dEUS-event will take place. Everyone who throws away a dEUS-cd that evening will get a free beer from Debie.
Debie is on top of the Vlaams Belang-list in Borgerhout for the upcoming elections. Debie is a former police force commissioner. At the moment he's still subject of a judicial research. In 2003 Debie was arrested on suspicion of book counterfeiting, authority abuse, battles, tortures and violations against the anti-racism-law.
Absynthe Minded will be supporting dEUS on a couple of dates in Switzerland and France.

As part of the Vadermoord festival at STUK in Leuven, Chantal Acda and Marissa (Chacda) played the following dEUS songs during their tribute set tonight:
Wake Me Up Before I Sleep (acoustic guitar and organ)
Gimme The Heat (banjo and organ)
Hotellounge (piano)
Secret Hell (acoustic guitar and organ)
Little Arithmetics (acoustic guitar and banjo)
Magdalena (piano and piano-flute)
Serpentine (acoustic guitar and xylophone)
Very nice and personal versions. Chantal Acda has a beautiful voice, and it was fantastic to hear those songs in a fresh new perspective. The very, very stripped-down version of Hotellounge was my favourite.
The main act was Sioen covering Björk. He was only singing (but singing Björk is quite a challenge already) accompanied by 3 brass players, on saxophone and flute. The musical arrangements were absolutely mindblowing.
dEUS will play the Nova Rock-festival in Nickelsdorf (Austria). The festival will take place from June 15th until June 17th. Other bands playing there: Alice In Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Datsuns, Guns N' Roses, Hard-Fi, Live, Massive Attack, Metallica, Mia, Motorhead, Placebo, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool and many more.
Here's a round up of the festival-tour so far:
02-06-2006 - Skabazac-festival, Onet-le-Chateau, France
04-06-2006 - Pinkpop, Landgraaf, The Netherlands
07-06-2006 - Super Bock Super Rock, Lisboa, Portugal
??-06-2006 - Nova Rock, Nickelsdorf, Austria
??-06-2006 - Southside, Neuhausen ob Eck, Germany
??-06-2006 - Hurricane, Scheessel, Germany
01-07-2006 - Rock Werchter, Werchter, Belgium
??-07-2006 - Festival Internacional de Benicassim, Benicassim, Spain
Funny. The people at Studio Vandersteen who are currently working on the Suske & Wiske-comic are probably dEUS-fans. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a dEUS-link in this image. It's taken from the current comic De Bangeschieters. The text says: Hello? Police!? Here Tom, barman from the pub Under The Sea! There's a gunfight! Hurry!
Back in 2001 it was revealed that Suske was the first dEUS-fan in a comic ever.
(thx to this blog)
This week (Thursday to be exact) the winner of the Studio Brussel remix-contest will be announced. Peter Van De Veire will air the best mixes in his show. Tom will announce the winner on Thursday. Here's an overview of the remixes I have posted on the podcast.

What did really happen in Austin last week? Was dEUS forced to leave stage by the police? Harry Buys mailed me a blog entry from Callipyge, a Texan-Lebanese, french speaking woman went to see Girls in Hawai, Syd Matters and of course, dEUS in Austin at Spiros Patio. She doesn't mention any trouble with the police though. Here's a report from someone who apparently was in the organisation and explains why things kinda went wrong.
(here's an article from VRTNieuws.net about the incident)
Looks like dEUS's love affair with the police knows no borders. The band was to headline the European evening of the South by Southwest festival in Austin TX, a major 3-day showcase festival during which more than 1,500 bands play all around the city. But technical difficulties meant that dEUS had to start playing after the curfew. Well into the concert, 8 policemen surrounded the soundboard and demanded that Vincent, their sound engineer, cut the power off. Encouraged by the crowd, Stephane kept drumming, which led to the band being forced off the stage by the cops. But Tom says that even though that was a nuisance, they managed to keep cool about it, and could eventually play another 45 minutes. The SXSW showcase was dEUS's first appearance in the United States since 1997.
(source: Arthur/De Morgen)
In case you're planning to visit Rock Werchter: presale starts tomorrow. I was planning to go on Saturday (when dEUS is playing), but I will probably skip it. I'm not gonna pay 60 euros for one day. Anyway, you can order tickets here.
kNIFE & fORK will support dEUS in Cafe Du Nord (San Francisco) on March 19th. kNIFE & fORK is a band led by Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey and the producer of In A Bar, Under The Sea) and Laurie Hall. Their debut-album Miserycord is available on iTunes or Amazon.com.
As mentioned last week, dEUS received the Cutting Edge Award for Best Album backstage at Stubrupuntuit. There are some pics on the Cutting Edge-website and at the Myspace-page of Kevin Major. He also blogged about his meeting with Tom.
dEUS will receive another fund (6.000 euro) from the European Tour Support Programme. They already received 10.000 euro in November. Two other Belgian bands also get a fund: Absynthe Minded and Sarah Bettens.
(Source: Muziekcentrum.be)
You probably heard about the fact Tom was planning to organize an event against far right party Vlaams Belang. An article in Flemish newspaper De Morgen reveals date and place: October 1st on the Sint-Jansplein in Antwerp. One week before the election. Tom has asked painter Luc Tuymans and novellist Tom Lanoye to help him out. No news on the line-up yet (apart from the obvious fact dEUS will be playing there).
A review from the gig in Shepherds Bush Empire (London) last november from the XFM-website.
(thx to Harry)
An item about dEUS in The Stranger (Seattle) and a preview to the Vancouver-gig in the Georgia Straight.
A very positive review of Pocket Revolution by Blogcritics.org.
(BTW: it's their second review, they already had one in december)
7 days, 7 weeks was song of the day on KEXP yesterday. The song was distributed through their podcast. KEXP also has a review of Pocket Revolution. They will have dEUS in the studio on March 22nd and they'll be giving away tickets for the gig in Chop Suey (Seattle).
Hurry on to eBay: there's a Jack&Johny-version of Zea on sale.
Other stuff worth mentioning:
- Theme From Turnpike 7"
- Little Arithmetics 7"
- Roses promo-single
- 7 days, 7 weeks promo-single
- a concert-poster from a dEUS-Morphine-gig in 1997
- What We Talk About-single
I mailed Stubru today about the remix-contest. It has been a little bit postponed. They will present the best mixes next weeks in De Grote Peter Van De Veire-show. The winner will be announced on thursday. Meanwhile, I podcasted another remix: the Hard Limit mix by Gregory Labelle.
The concert at STUK (Leuven) during which Chacda will cover dEUS and Sioen will cover Björk will not take place on March 21 as previously reported, but on Monday, March 20.
You can currently hear Chacda's version of Serpentine in the audio player of the STUK website.
dEUS will play the Super Bock Super Rock-festival in Lisboa on June 7th. Other bands on the bill are Franz Ferdinand, Keane and The Editors.

The Philadelphia Daily News about Pocket Revolution: Belgian band dEUS trades on the international language of moody, cinematic art rock on.
dEUS will play a Fnac session in Mulhouse at 17:30 on Friday, April 21, a few hours before their gig at the Noumatrouff.
(thanks to ringring on the ISRC)
This week the winner of the dEUS-remix contest will be announced. Stubru will air the remixes in De Grote Peter Van De Veire-show and Tom will announce the winner next thursday.
dEUS will do a radio-session on American radiostation KEXP on March 22nd. Here's their livestream.

Once again, a great evening. I've seen dEUS a couple of times play the Vooruit in the past. My first dEUS-gig (apart from a couple of festivals) was there. March 12th 1995. Eleven years ago.
I arrived in Ghent around 23.00 hours, picked up my ticket and immediately went down to the concerthall. Millionaire was playing an intense set, but I hardly heard a song in the noise. Still a great live-experience though. I joined Jyves afterwards and we looked for a place more up front.
This gig was probably a nice practice for the roadies as well. After Millionaire the whole stage was empty and they had to build up from scratch. Since dEUS was scheduled to play an hour, the setlist could also be a good indication for the festival-setlist. The gig kicked of with Turnpike and never lost any of its tempo. The train kept going for more than an hour.
They played 16 songs: One Advice, Space, Rock Chick, Pocket Revolution, WCS and Hotellounge were dropped compared to the gigs in Vorst. Technically it probably wasn't the best dEUS-gig ever. But the venue and the exclusiveness of this gig compensated that.
I heard a great version of What We Talk About and I loved the bridge between Nothing Really Ends and Bad Timing. Suds & Soda once again included the Sabotage-part and a couple of lines from When The Sun Goes Down (Arctic Monkeys).
I was expecting Tim to join them during If you don't get what you want (he was standing at the side of the stage), but it didn't happen. Tom did a sort of accidental stagedive at the end of the song. He was standing backwards at the front of the stage and fell into the audience with his guitar. That made me think of the first Vooruit-evening in 1996 were almost the whole band stagedived while the Evil Superstars played It's A Sad, Sad Planet.
Tom was interviewed by StuBru a few hours before the show started. You can listen to it on their website (click on the "herbeluister" link, it's in Dutch). The rest of their PuntUit coverage is on this page.

If you're not going to Stubrupuntuit tonight : you can follow it live on the Stubru-website. On this page that is.
I (aka Jyves, as Bart gave me an account a few days ago) still have to post on my dEUS tour diary about some gigs from last year, but in the meantime, I've "already" posted my review of the two Vorst concerts, with a few photos and a Rock Chick mp3 of debatable sound quality. And the story of a kiss.
dEUS will play the Southside-festival in Neuhausen ob Eck (Germany) (June 23rd-25th). Other bands on the bill: The Strokes, The Cardigans, Sigur Rós, Live, Elbow and Hard-Fi. Neuhausen ob Eck is situated between Munich, Stuttgart and Freiburg, pretty close to the Bodensee.
Another (great) What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) remix: the Robotone-remix by Bob & Rod. Also available on their Myspace.
Perrine Foulon mailed me some pics from dEUS in Caen (25-02-2006): a couple of pics from a Fnac-session and a couple from the gig in the Big Band Café. All pics are in the Flickr-group.
Two reviews from German gigs: one from Essen on Triggerfish.de (I don't remember mentioning their Pocket Revolution-review) and one from Stuttgart (only for subscribers of the Stuttgarter Nachrichten)
Let's dig a little in the archive of the dEUS podcast to celebrate the release of the new single... On November 2, dEUS played What We Talk About during VRT één's talk show "De Laatste Show". You can watch the video on the program's website (click on bekijk hoge kwaliteit).
Two years ago on the same show, Magnus (or rather Tom Barman, CJ Bolland, Angélique Wilkie and the Laatste Show Band) had played Hunter/Collector - watch it on the same site.
Eastern Conference Champions, the band that will be supporting dEUS on a couple of dates in North-America is band of the day at Spin.com.
An exclusive one: a gig in Berlin from 1995. Featuring early versions of Super Market Song and My Wife Jan. And also Great American Nude.
,,This is a not very widely circulated close-to-excellent DAT recording of a wild early dEUS show featuring an interesting setlist & a rather experimental & intense performance''
dEUS will play the Skabazac-festival (Onet-le-Chateau, France) on June 2nd. Other bands on the bill: Louise Attaque, Zion Train, Roni Size,...
(thx to Ringring on ISR)
dEUS will play the Pinkpop-festival on sunday june 4th. Other bands performing that day include Van Katoen, Infadels, Hooverphonic, Skin, Alter Bridge, Kashmir, Bloodhound Gang, Racoon and Tool. More info here.

What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) remixed by Alien Masturbation Foundation for the Stubru Remix contest. Click here to download.
Stubru has announced the schedule for Stubrupuntuit. dEUS will play from 00.30 til 01.30 in the "concertzaal". The 'support acts' are Millionaire, Absynthe Minded en Goose. Click here for the complete line-up.
Paul Diersen made a nice remix of What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) for the Studio Brussel Remix-contest. You can download it here. He used a couple of tracks from the Stubru-websites and also made some tracks of his own (bass, guitar, handclaps and choirs). You will also recognize a little bit of The Magic Hour (that Paul played). The result is definitely worth a listen!
If you want to share your own remix, just send me an e-mail.

The regular release of the What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) seems to be delayed. It's now scheduled for release on March 20th in Europe. A UK-release still has to be determined. The single is already available on iTunes though. As you might remember, it contains five tracks.
- What we talk about (when we talk about love)
- The Real sugar (Today FM acoustic radio session)
- What we talk about (when we talk about love) (Today FM acoustic radio session)
- What we talk about (when we talk about love) (Don Meulemans Remix)
- Sentimientos, quando hablamos de amour (yep, the song in Spanish)
BTW: if you want a hardcopy, you can always pre-order it at Proxis.be.

dEUS has won the Cutting Edge 2006 Award for Best Album. The band will receive the award backstage at Stubrupuntuit.
The first gig in Vorst reviewed by Cutting Edge. They also have two photo-reports: here and here.
Stubru has just confirmed dEUS will play Stubrupuntuit next saturday. Peter Van De Veire had a phonecall with Tom. You can listen to it here.
Belpop.com has an article about dEUS on Stubrupuntuit. And they also reviewed the 2nd 1st Vorst-gig.
Next tuesday, March 7th, Pocket Revolution will be released in the USA and Canada. It will not be different from the European release (as wrongly said in Pitchfork before)
Harry Buys mailed me today. He was at the Chris Whitley-tribute in the Vooruit yesterday and somebody from the Vooruit told him dEUS was playing 100% sure there next saturday on Stubrupuntuit. The damn thing is sold out (according to Stubru), but on the Vooruit-website it's still possible to order tickets for saturday. Only if you have a creditcard (which I have not). So if anyone has got a spare ticket for me...? Please?
About the tribute: Mauro, Alan & Stephane opened the evening with a nice cover of Bread's "Guitar Man". Alan Gevaert did a great performance : a song with his niece (Trixie Whitley) during which he played Chris' national steel guitar (the one pictured on the "Living with the Law" album).
Stubru-show On Stage apparently had a dEUS-special last monday. It included material from Snow Patrol, Elbow and dEUS-live-recordings from Pukkelpop 2004 and Tom & Craig in the AB before one of the gigs in 1999. You can relisten it here.
Canvas will broadcast a feature about Mauro tomorrow at 13.00 hour. And Mauro also has a new project: he recorded an album with Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire) and Luuk Cox (Buscemi) under the name Horns. The albumtitle is Horns, Halo's and Mobile Phones. It will be sold on www.conspiracyrecords.com.
According to this blog there's a chance dEUS will play Stubrupuntuit next weekend. The blogger talks about a small hint in Focus Knack this week (haven't found it yet), the announcement of the last name monday at 17.30 hour (don't know where he knows that from) and an open slot in dEUS' agenda (that's correct)
The Stubru-website however says the complete line-up has been announced and all tickets are sold out. If anyone's got more info on this, please contact me.
Three words. GREAT. GIG. AGAIN. The 2nd-gig in Vorst was a completely different experience for me. The stomach felt ok again. I met Hans and Jyves before the gig and we stood about 10 meters away from the stage. I share Jyves' opinion about Snow Patrol (boring after some time).
The setlist was more or less the same. They didn't play Put The Freaks Up Front and Serpentine tonight and they changed the order of the songs a bit after Turnpike. A good thing because that was the part were many people lost their attention wednesday-evening.
The band looked more relaxed too. They were obviously enjoying themselves on stage. Tom did say more than Merci between the song. And even Mauro and Alan spoke to the crowd.
The crowd was also better than wednesday. More jumping, more handclapping, more dancing. The gig was recorded for a Dutch pay-tv-channel and Tom encouraged everyone to misbehave. Instant Street was the first highligt, Roses was ok again and What We Talk About, When We Talk About Love sounded a lot better dan wednesday.
Vorst went totally crazy during Suds & Soda. There was even a camera-man in the moshpit. The Supersharp-part was left away and replaced by some other lyrics. The gig ended with Hotellounge.
Afterwards, Jyves and I met Neeltje and her sister. We had some beers and succesfully 'begged' some crewmembers for tickets for the aftershow in the KVS for Neeltje and her sister. We first went to the aftershow in the VIP-lounge of Vorst. Another highlight in my fan-being.
We talk to Steph (he told us about the pay-tv and also told that the dvd will be a compilation of different gigs) and Tom (he agreed with us the gig was better than the first one, they were more relaxed because it was the second time, ...) Stef Kamil was also there.
We left Vorst at 1 o' clock. I gave Jyves a ride home and decided to skip the KVS-party when I totally lost my way and thinking about the fact I had to get out of bed at 7' o clock it didn't look like a bad idea at all to me.

The gig in St. Petersburg (April 15th) is shortly mentioned in this article from The St. Petersburg Times.
At least four people will meet tonight. Meeting point is the Colruyt next to Vorst Nationaal. Timeframe : 18.30 - 19.oo hour. Leave a message on ISR if you like to join.
Two words. GREAT. GIG. I was a little bit afraid that Vorst would be too big for dEUS, but it worked out fine. We were sitting in the back, just behind the PA and had a great view on the stage and the pit. Elbow was a good support act (I've seen worser). dEUS started at 21.10h and played for about two hours.
The setlist was changed compared to the AB-gigs (they deleted Magdalena, Cold Sun of Circumstance and 7 days, 7 weeks). Good
changes if you ask me.
Pocket Revolution opened, followed by an intense version of Stop-Start Nature. It was the start of a great hour: One Advice, Space (one of the songs that was selected by the fans), a great version of Instant Street (first big crowd reaction) and an explosive Fell Off The Floor, Man. Youth sentiment when they played Via (the song I usually use to get into the first rows).
The lightshow was sober, but great. The band was playing a lot in the half dark. Also nice to see that quiet songs as The Real Sugar worked out well. They played WCS and Put The Freaks Up Front. I was expecting something special during Theme From Turnpike (the dancers), but it didn't happen. Roses was a killer as usual.
The crowd-reaction was rather disappointing. I expected more jumping and dancing in the pit. I only saw a bunch of 30 people moving from time to time. I'll try to do beter tonight, when I'll be in the pit.
I also have my doubts if playing two Magnus-songs was a good thing. At least they couldn't catch my attention (as other dEUS-songs do) and I saw a lot of people around me with less of more the same problem. Which doesn't mean they should only play the classics of course. They played a not very inspired version of What We Talk About, but Little Arithmetics and Nothing Really Ends were great again.
Tom was having some voice-problems during the first encore. Nevertheless, Bad Timing became beter and beter the longer it lasted. No Tim Vanhamel during If You Don't Get What You Want this time. Suds & Soda was the bomb Vorst was waiting for. The crowd went totally crazy. The Sabotage-part (first time I saw it live) also rocked.
The second round of encores kicked off with Hotellounge (a good thing they rehabilated it). We left during Serpentine to avoid traffic jams.
There's a small interview with Tom in Het Laatste Nieuws today.
- The first concert Tom went to was Prince in Vorst (1987)
- He doesn't really like handclapping during songs (and he will certainly not encourage people to do it)
- He admits the Belgian crowds are calm, but at least they're attentive (in The Netherlands everyone is constantly talking)
Tom interviewed by Planet Internet.
- They'll start with the new record in October
- Tom thinks Pocket Revolution has the possibility to sell 1.000.000 records worldwide

Pitchfork Media has an item announcing the upcoming US-tour. It mentions the USA-release of Pocket Revolution will have a slightly different track order (but it will contain the same tracks), but the tracklist they publish is exactly the same as the European version of PR.
Concerning the USA-tour it mentions that in Eastern Conference Champions will also be on stage in Montreal, Quebec, Ontario, Detroit, Chicago and Cambridge. And for South By Southwest dEUS will be joined by Daniel Balthasar (Luxembourg), Gem (The Netherlands), Grand National (UK), Girls in Hawaii (Belgium) and Syd Matters (France). Pitchfork doesn't mention Admiral Freebee supporting in LA.
I updated my tour-overview with the latest info.
