There's an article in today's Gazet Van Antwerpen about the upcoming tourdates. Here's the news:

  • What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) will be released as the new single all over Europe in February
  • The videoclip for the single has already been recorded
  • Pocket Revolution has been sold 120.000 times in Europe
  • dEUS will play at least 70 gigs in 2006
  • From February 9th they'll be in Israël for gigs in Jerusalem en Tel Aviv
  • They wanted to play somewhere in the Palestine-area too, but it was a bit difficult for the Israelian promotor. They probably play there later this year when they're going to Turkey and Beirut.
  • The Cure will also play the Bangkok 100 Rock Festival. dEUS will be playing for a crowd of 20.000 people.
  • Christian Pierre (the manager of dEUS) received a review of the Manila Standard Today. Seen on this blog? ;-)
  • Mid-march they're going to the States to play South by Southwest and a dozen of gigs on the east- en westcoast. They will be playing on their own (not supporting any bigger band) in clubs with a capacity of 300 to 800 people.
  • They're working on a dvd from the tour. It's still unclear when the dvd will be released.

This blogreview is describing dEUS as the Belgian Nirvana.

at 07:50 posted by Bart Van Belle 0 Comments

Some nice lines in this review from the Manila Standard Today.

  • Tom Barman sounds like the bastard child of Tom Waits and Lou Reed
  • Bad Timing launches with a guitar drone reminiscent of the Velvet Underground and ultimately explodes into a wall of sound that would make Butch Vig and Phil Spector nod in approval.
  • Include Me Out sounds like Steely Dan on valium.

There was an interview with Tom in Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad last saturday. The guy who followed dEUS on the French tour for Knack went to see them in Athens too. Here are the headlines.

  • dEUS is touring Israël, Thailand, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in 2006
  • The gigs in Israël are scheduled at the beginning of February
  • A US-tour is less of more certain. They're probably playing South By Southwest too.
  • There's a chance Mark Lannegan will be supporting dEUS in the US.
  • According to Tom the Shepherd's Bush-gig was the best one of this tour. Other top-gigs were Dijon, Strasbourg, Paris and Orléans.
  • They played 2 or 3 bad gigs.
  • There will not be a live-album, only a live-dvd
  • Mauro will be available for dEUS in 2006
  • Tom and Mauro will start writing new material in january.
  • The next album is planned for the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007

American singer-songwriter Chris Whitley died last sunday. He lost the fight against cancer. Once again, a big loss.
In case you didn't know: back in the eighties Whitley played in A Noh Rodeo together with Alan Gevaert. He was married to Alan's sister and has an 18 years old daughter with her, Trixie.

Nele Scheers has sent me the following mail.

Was reading an interview with Manu Riche in 'De Morgen' on Saturday. (Remember the documentary about the previous Belgian king that Tom Barman chose when he appeared on 'Zomergasten'? It was made by Manu Riche.) Came across this interesting bit:

Apparently Manu Riche is working on a documentary about Tom Barman.

A three part-video-interview with Tom from the Chatshow Network.

In Part 1 Sarah discusses Tom’s home-city of Antwerp, famous for fashion and Rubens. Tom is the only original member of dEUS and Sarah asks him how he manages to keep the essence of dEUS going with it’s changing band members. They discuss his favourite audiences and how he sees his music.

Part 2 is where Tom educates us on the pronunciation of the name ’dEUS’. Next they talk about
the new album, Pocket revolution, and dEUS’ new direction. dEUS has some pretty famous fans as well, REM and Radiohead being amongst them.

In Part 3, Tom talks about touring England, Ireland and Scotland and how they keep on schedule
and keep changing the set list. He can’t remember all the songs he’s ever recorded – a sign of a good time I think. Sarah and Tom talk Belgium, contemporary dance(!) and rock. Check out Cheesy Dips to find out which possession Tom couldn’t possibly live without.

Two gigs in The Netherlands have been rescheduled because Tom lost his voice. Tom already had problems with his voice on tuesday. Too many after-party's? You'd think so, if you read the Focus Knack tour-report.

Yesterday's concert at Tivoli, Utrecht will take place next sunday (23/10), while tonight's gig at De Oosterpoort, Groningen has been rescheduled to next monday (24/10). Tuesday's gig at Paradiso is not to be rescheduled. Tickets remain valid or can be returned. More on dEUS.be.

Yesterday's concert was even better than the one on tuesday. I had high expectations: it was the last night in Belgium, they should have had a great day (you don't sell out Vorst every day) and StuBru was gonna broadcast one hour live (and Tom doesn't like crappy live-recordings on the radio).

They played the same songs as tuesday, just shuffled a bit with the order. Great crowd this time. I was standing a bit further away than tuesday, but around me everyone was going completely mad. Thé highlight was Suds & Soda which made the AB go crazy. One of the best versions I've ever witnessed. And of course it was great to see Tim Vanhamel and Mauro doing a guitar-duel in If You Don't Get What You Want. And Theme From Turnpike is still a fucking great song.

Tom's voice sounded still tired and they didn't play everything perfect. Stop Start Nature and Bad Timing weren't as good as tuesday and I personally think that a song as Assault on dEUS is great on the Magnus-album, but it couldn't convince me live. They started 7 days, 7 weeks but started it all over again after a few seconds.

Update: here's another AB-review and here's Jyves' one

Could you imagine this. 18 people are already selling tickets for the Vorst-concert on eBay. They're just trying to make some money on poor fans that haven't got a ticket. And of course: it's the economy, baby. If people want to give 60 euros for one ticket, there's no problem. But i really wouldn't give that much money for a concert-ticket. How much is a ticket worth to you?

You can relisten yesterday's Antenna with one hour of dEUS live in the AB here. Here's the mp3. The link will expire monday evening.

Here's a nice flash-item on the Olympia-concert from French newspaper Le Monde. Definitely worth a view.

I managed to get two tickets for the concert in Vorst Nationaal. One hell of job since both the website of Goformusic and Sherpa were almost not reachable this morning. I tried several times to order by phone but some voice told me ordering by phone was not possible anymore. On my fifth try it did work and i could order.

You can still order through Sherpa.be or Fnac.be

Update 13.17 hour : it looks sold out. De Standaard already has an article about it.

Update: 13.49 hour: someone is already offering tickets on eBay. Click here for all items.

Update 16.49 hour: there's a waitinglist.
