I might have some news for you. One of my friends knows somebody who is working for V2 Belgium (which has nothing to do with dEUS in fact, since dEUS is distributed by Universal in Belgium). I asked him about the Sun Ra 10". He came back with the following news: the 10" will probably be followed by a full album with remixes of dEUS-songs. A release date hasn't been set (yet).

There's an interview with Tom in this week's issue of Vrij Nederland. You can read a snippet on the Vrij Nederland-website. Here's a short round-up. A full report will follow as soon as I get the magazine.

About the tour

  • This tour is the biggest and longest tour dEUS has ever done
  • Tom says he's surrounded with a dream-band. In the past there was always someone spoiling the fun.

He also talk about the racist murders in Antwerp. In case you don't know: a couple of weeks ago some guy killed a black woman and a 2-year old (white) girl in broad daylight in the centre of Antwerp. Here's an article (in English) about it. And Wikipedia has a large item about the killer (here's a Dutch version).

Apparently, one of Tom's best friends was a family member of Luna, the little girl. Luna's parents had a restaurant were Tom celebrated his mother's 75th birthday only a couple of weeks ago. The evening of the murders they played in Leipzig. Tom was filled with anger on stage. He played better, sung better, sung more sensitived. He didn't mention anything about the murders, he only dedicated a song to the family.

Oor

30 May 2006 at 07:06 posted by Bart Van Belle 0 Comments

Here's a round-up of the feature in Oor-magazine. The article is written by Peter Lissen, who also did a tour-report for Knack (France) and Het Nieuwsblad (Greece). This time he joined dEUS in Russia.

  • Klaas had a kind of breakdown in the States. He started crying on stage in New York. They were used to playing packed halls in Europe and I was difficult getting used to very small crowds in the USA.
  • Tourmanager Ton Maessen says Klaas wasn't the only one having difficulties. According to Ton the Pocket Revolution-tour is one of the heaviest tours he has done (he toured with The Bak Seeds, Black Crows and Inxs in the past). They cancelled a couple of gigs (Bilbao and Agen) because of that.
  • Manu Riche and Renaat Lambeets joined the band in Sint-Petersburg for the documentary about Tom. Tom's mother and sister also visited the band over there.
  • The article also mentions a couple of parties and a karaoke-performance by Stéphane and Mauro. Stéphane did Faith by George Michael and Mauro Heart Of Gold, Strawberry Fields Forever and Falling In Love.
  • dEUS has made it to the cover of the Russian Rolling Stone

A ticket for one of the first dEUS-gigs ever. A concert in Augustus 1992 on the parking of a tennis club in Wommelgem (near Antwerp). Probably new to most of you, since it's not listed in Jyves' huge tourarchive (yet).
From the blogger that also had a 1993-picture of dEUS.

Oh. This shirt brings back some memories. I have the same one (though it's too small now) . It's rare since I've not seen many around. I've bought it on the Pukkelpop-festivalmarket, back in 1995. I believe it costed 500 francs (12,5 euro). A couple of weeks earlier I saw Tom Pintens watching a Kiss My Jazz-gig on the Lokerse Feesten with the same shirt.

Anyway, the shirt (not mine) is now on eBay. I'll have a look in my closet and see if one of my kids is interested.
